As the school year wraps up so do the spring sport seasons. Locker rooms get cleared out, jerseys are returned, memories and laughs are paused until the next season. Seniors move on to bigger and better things, hopefully leaving with a win or or as champions.
Softball, lacrosse, golf and tennis all wrapped up their seasons with a win or a loss hoping for a further ride next year. But as for the Boy’s Baseball team, they have a shot at making it big. After an upset between (16) Hawthorn and (1) Newton, Rip City became a few games closer to their dreams becoming a reality.
Pinned against the 16th seed, Pequannock knew they had to get the lead and eventually bury Hawthorne. And that's exactly what they did. By scoring 9 in the first inning, Hawthorne had to give credit to the panthers for coming out fired up. Many players had singles, doubles, and RBIs that drove in runs that led to Pequannock 11 hits for the game. Winning that game guaranteed them a spot in the semi-finals where they would face Pascack Hills.
“We are very excited to play Pascack Hills. They are a very good team so our boys need to be locked in and focused for the game.” Head Coach John McBurney stated. He also added “We’ve been working on hitting… mostly though we have been perfecting our defense. Offense may win games but defense wins championships.”
The game will be played at 4:15 on Tuesday May 30th at Pascack. The winner will move onto the finals of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1 Group 2 State Tournament. The winner of that will be crowned State Champions and bring home the rings.
