Beauty and the Beast, one of the most beloved Disney movies, has been made into a live action masterpiece. In keeping with the nostalgic feel, the movie clarified specific plot points that were once ambiguous and addressed current topics, overall improving an already perfect movie.
The star studded cast, including Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, and Josh Gad, all reprise the iconic roles of Belle, the Beast, Gaston and LeFou. The chemistry between these actors is portrayed through the characters, and makes the scenes magical and believable. All the actors were so perfect for their roles; the highlight truly was their acting and the newly adapted characters.
The Beast was also very much improved with this movie. As he gets transformed as an adult, he is able to have mature conversations about literature and poetry with Belle, and viewers can understand how they fell in love. Belle is also portrayed in this movie as a very intelligent woman. The audience gets to see her invent ways to make life easier, and it was very intriguing to see how brilliant she was.
LaFou was a highlight of this movie. Despite the “controversy” surrounding his more modern character, he was one of my favorites. In the original, he was one of those loveable but slightly annoying characters. However, in this film he was dynamic, interesting, and hilarious. It was amazing to see the change in his character, when the audience never saw it coming.
This movie truly was brilliant. The newly added songs (such as Evermore and Days in the Sun), added more depth to all the characters, and even the classics were redone perfectly. The ballroom scene made plenty of adult and children cry from joy, and that was possibly the best part of the whole movie.
The excitement and nostalgia that comes from this movie is indescribable; it’s a breathtaking and nearly flawless film in it’s own right.
