Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart were accustomed to remixing indie songs, but by 2013 ended up making original singles. After establishing themselves as the duo known as The Chainsmokers, they released their single ¨#Selfie¨ which launched their career. The song gained attention because of the way it satirized contemporary society, and the actual music was not taken too seriously. However, when the duo released their first EP, Bouquet, The Chainsmokers quickly became one of the most popular names in the EDM realm. With iconic songs such as ¨Roses”, Taggart and Pall quickly sprung to the top of the charts.

On April 7th 2017, The Chainsmokers released their first full album entitled Memories...Do Not Open. Since then, the album has received tons of praise. The distinguishing factor of this new album is that Taggart himself sings, whereas in their EPs, there were only featured singers. The album's first single, ¨Closer¨, made it clear that the album would be worthy of attention. The song even broke the record for ¨Most weeks at Number 1 on Dance/ Electronic Songs, lasting 11 weeks.

The album is very upbeat and can attract a wide range of ages. Every song has a very different beat, but is able to make you want to dance nonetheless. Although Taggart sings in most of the songs, the album also features Coldplay, Emily Warren, Louane, Jhene Aiko, and Florida Georgia Line. Predictions circulate regarding the possibility of Taggart's solo career; however it does not seem reasonable that he leave the DJ who is just as responsible for the album's success. Memories...Do Not Open has solidified the duo's style and vision, and The Chainsmokers are currently touring the country sharing their new hits.
