For most of the student athletes in high school the spring seasons are interpreted as “the beginning of the end." After the last game, champions or not, players take their last steps on the field. A majority of athletes hand in their jerseys, say goodbye to their coaches, and put away their cleats forever. But a select few athletes here at Pequannock Township High School have decide to continue their athletic journey to college. Spending countless hours putting time and effort into the sports they love, nine students from Pequannock have committed to their schools of choice to continue their Softball, Wrestling, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer and Gymnastics careers.

In particular, both Hannah Brizek and Jonnalyn McClain have decided to continue their softball careers at the County College of Morris (CCM). Hannah Brizek shared with us her feelings about playing in college. “I am not nervous at all...I already know some of the girls on the team and I've met the coach a few times. I also introduced myself to the rest of the team when I went to see some of their games and the girls made me feel very comfortable and excited to play for this team.” She also added that “I feel that it is just going to be a higher step and more competitive than high school and travel ball but I am ready for a challenge.” Hannah is excited to continue her pitching career at CCM and is looking forward to what the next four years will bring.

As for pitcher Jonnalyn Mcclain, she informed us about her expectations for playing in college. “I think it will be a more competitive atmosphere in comparison to the high school atmosphere. I also expect that there will be more intense workouts and I am going to have to be very committed to the team in order to be successful.” She also included, “I feel that it will be a different lifestyle for me and I am excited to see what type of player I become. One thing I am hoping to get out of this experience is learning how to balance a harder schedule. Also I feel it will be beneficial to me because I am going to have to form relationships with new players. Most of the teams I've played on since I was little I’ve always knew most of the players and got along with them well.” Jonnalyn’s friends and family are excited to see what the next few years have in store for her on the CCM softball team.

As you can see, the students here at Pequannock Township High School have big plans for the future when it comes to continuing their sports careers. Not only do they hope to improve their skills on the field, they also hope to gain life experiences to help them after college. Whether it be meeting new people, making new friends, or gaining life experiences, the college commits are excited to continue their athletic careers and continue developing their life skills.
